If the practice period does not apply to a student, may they begin their Summer Work and Travel before the practice dates?
Yes, we have determined that the practice period does not effect all students. Therefore if you deem that the student does not need to remain in Romania during a practice session then the student may depart prior to this time. (Please see the updated University Official Vacation Dates document attached below.)
May a student who is a nationality other than Romanian apply for the J-1 program at the US Embassy in Romania?
Yes, if the student meets all other requirements they may apply for the Summer Work and Travel program here in Romania.
May a Romanian student who is attending a Hungarian University apply for the Summer Work and Travel program at the US Embassy in Bucharest?
The US Embassy at Bucharest does not have access to a Hungarian translator and is not familiar with the Hungarian University system. Therefore it is best for the student to apply in the country in which they are a full time student. (We are still waiting on confirmation of this from the US Embassy in Budapest.)
Will the Embassy accept a DS 2019 that has a start day 2-3 days before the officially recognized University Vacation date?
As long as the DS 2019 is with in a reasonable amount of time within the date of the officially recognized University Vacation date, we will accept the application.
Our program sponsor makes all DS 2019's eligible for 3/4 months from time of issuance. That means a student with a start date of July 3 will have an end date of Oct 3. Will the Embassy accept this DS 2019?
Yes, as long as the student understands that they are required to return to Romania in time for the beginning of the fall semester in October 2004.
Can we make payments by credit card?
At this time the answer is no. But we are working diligently on this matter and will let you know as soon as this becomes an option.
